The location is the one good thing here. Even with advance payment and confirmation from the booking app, they refused to check us in, then tried to push an overpriced booking directly at the hotel. Their behavior was deeply disappointing.

There’s little food choice at the hotel itself now, since the ground floor restaurant, Pind Punjab Dhaba, only has Parathas on its menu. Bangur Main Market is nearby, though, and has a much better variety if you’re willing to go out. Finding the hotel is tricky: it’s in a residential area, down a lane beside Reliance Fresh, and you can’t spot it from a moving vehicle. The infrastructure is poor, with no elevator or escalator, and the service is only average. The price is high compared with other hotels, so it doesn’t feel worth the money.

I came to Kolkata for business and trusted the pictures online. That was a big mistake. The room looked nothing like them, and I ended up moving to another hotel. It was dirty, the bedding had cigarette holes, the street noise went on constantly, and mosquitoes were everywhere. There are plenty of other guesthouses and hotels in Bangur for the same price. I’d avoid this one.

The staff were warm, humble, and took good care of us. It’s a pocket friendly hotel with a pleasant atmosphere, and I had a lovely stay.
