The relaxed, safe setting worked well for our family, including children and senior members. Kids could use the open spaces, while adults could unwind by the clean, family-friendly pool or walk along the beach. The restaurant had South Indian and continental choices that suited family preferences, and breakfast was enjoyable in a pleasant dining area. Staff were polite, courteous, and helpful with requests. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, with many looking out to the sea or greenery. The property has traditional charm and is well maintained, with housekeeping keeping rooms neat and basic amenities readily available. Its best feature is the seaside location, with lovely ocean views and a calm, refreshing atmosphere throughout the day. Well-kept lawns and natural surroundings add to the appeal. KTDC Samudra offers good value for families who care more about location, nature, and peace than luxury frills. A nice place to relax, reconnect with nature, and spend time together on a comfortable, memorable Kovalam holiday.

The property overlooks the sea and has beach access, and the location is good. I stayed here in January 2026. Though it’s marketed as a Beach Hotel, the building design doesn’t make full use of sunset views from the rooms. Hygiene was moderate. The pool was good, but pool towels seemed to be reused without proper washing, and no responsible person appeared to oversee the cleanliness of guest linen. There are signs of earlier landscaping work, and the grounds have plenty of potential for gardens. Buffet choices were quite limited and mostly carbohydrate-based. Security fell short too, as no one was at the entrance gate around the clock to check and record people coming and going. It felt more like a government guest house than a beach hotel, and the value for money was medium.

The pool is great, with about half of it 6-7 feet deep and a separate section for kids. The food and service were okay, and the Biryani was great. It’s well placed away from the busy commercial beach, with easy access to a quiet beach. There are no lifts, so older guests should look for a ground-floor room.

We held our get-together at Hotel Samudra, KTDC, and left with fond memories. It was a great setting for the gathering, with lovely ambience and excellent hospitality. The restaurant team served delicious, well-prepared food with care, and everyone there was polite and efficient. Front office staff were welcoming and professional, making check-in and check-out smooth; the support staff were attentive and ready to help. The location facing Kovalam Beach is beautiful, with a fantastic view throughout the day. You can walk down to the beach or swim in the neatly maintained pool. Highly recommended for a visit to Kovalam.
