The ground floor has a spice shop and currency exchange counter, which is handy for picking up local produce. Downstairs, local workers also sort and grade fresh cardamom, giving the place a distinctly local feel. The guest rooms are on the second floor, with basic, functional layouts in Standard Double Rooms and Economy Triple Rooms. They have attached bathrooms, hot water and televisions. It's an economical, no-frills place on the main Dindigul - Theni - Kottarakkara Highway (NH 183), in central Kumily near Thekkady. Room rates are usually ₹1,200-₹1,400 a night, so it suits backpackers, people passing through and families watching their budget. Local transit, the Kadathanadan Kalari Center and several places to eat are within easy walking distance, and the main entrance to the Periyar Tiger Reserve is about 1.2 kilometers away. The host, Alan Joe, is helpful and can arrange local activities such as elephant rides, jeep safaris, tea factory visits and boat tickets for the Periyar lake.
