Malpe Sea Front Cottage

We went in the last week of August, during the rainy season. Watching the rain over the sea was lovely, though the weather kept us indoors most of the time. One of the best parts was having breakfast while looking out at the waves. The complimentary breakfast had a good range and quality, and the in-house meals were good too. Malpe Sea Front Cottages really does give you a sea-facing stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the beach is right there, about two minutes from the room. The rooms are spacious, with hot water all day and reliable Wi-Fi, and the bathrooms are large and comfortable. The grounds were generally well kept, though the rooms could use better upkeep. A repaint or touch-up would make them feel fresher.

The cottages are in a beautiful location, and if all you want is drinks, music and the beach, you may be happy here. But the place didn’t feel worth four stars. Housekeeping and maintenance need a lot of work. The bathrooms need constant checking. In the middle of the night, water from the commode kept flowing across the bathroom. Housekeeping came, shut off the water and left without cleaning up. They did take action later, but the incident still makes me uneasy. Food service was awful. Staff seemed unable to manage even a small crowd, and the Ocean View Restaurant buffet area was visibly overcrowded for the number of guests. At Nemo's restaurant, even though it wasn’t that crowded, we had to get our own plates and spoons. The staff struggled to handle things and need to improve how they deal with customers. The Wi-Fi didn’t work, and nobody even tried to fix it.

A very popular resort in Udupi, with a super location. Room amenities and maintenance need attention, though.

The rooms were good, and staff service was great. The cottages are nice and are part of Paradise Isle Resorts. The awkward bit is that parking and the amenities are at Paradise Isle, across the road from the cottages, so getting to them is difficult.
