The personal, attentive service was one of the property’s strengths. Vinod, the friendly, charming owner, is rightly proud of this heritage home and helped arrange a massage, transfers, and a tuk tuk ride around the village. The staff were just as accommodating and gracious. We chose the Venice Heritage room and liked its space and comfortable bed, plus the outdoor bathroom and shower. WiFi and internet were patchy, the only real downside of our stay. I’d somehow missed that the property sits right on the water, despite reading reviews. Free bikes were provided, a little rough around the edges but working, and we enjoyed a couple of leisurely rides along the waterway. There aren’t restaurants nearby, so expect to eat most meals here. Vinod can suggest good places a short tuk tuk ride away, and I heartily recommend Avees for lunch. There aren’t many big sights or activities, which suited me. I spent a lot of time enjoying the lovely grounds and the slow pace of the unspoiled rural surroundings. The food was tasty and plentiful, though I suspect it was adjusted a little for Western tastes. To be fair, I’d just come from two places with some of the most interesting, flavorful meals I’ve ever had. For a quiet stay off the beaten path in the Alleppey backwaters, this is an excellent choice and solid value.
