Bentley Hotel Marine Drive

We booked because of the location, and it is close to prime parts of Colaba and Churchgate. That’s the only good thing about this hotel. The rooms are tiny, there’s no restaurant, and breakfast is brought to the room. The quality and quantity were satisfactory, though their idea of non-veg seems to be strictly bread omelette. There are quite a lot of staff for a small hotel, and they always expect a tip. Finding reception was difficult, with no signs or directions. The watchman seemed glued to his phone most of the time. There’s an elevator to the 3rd floor, but guests aren’t allowed to take luggage in it, so be ready to drag suitcases up the stairs. The reception gentleman badly needs a crash course in hospitality. He looked like a disgruntled government bank employee who didn’t want to work. He could see my booking but was quick to say he couldn’t validate that we had booked for our son. Our ‘warm welcome’ began with a cold argument and ended with me paying upfront. The geyser switch is in the lobby, so to get a hot shower you have to go out and turn it on. If you forget to turn it off, the uncle at reception is ready to lecture you.

I stayed here with my family and our 1.5 years of infant. The service was excellent and the staff were very supportive. Our room was clean. The hotel is right next to Wankhede stadium in marine drive, and the charge was reasonable. There were also some foreigners staying there while I was there, so imagine how good the hotel must be.

On my first trip to Mumbai as a solo female traveller, I felt safe and secure here, and the staff were extremely helpful. It’s a small Hotel in a truly great location, in a safe area and just minutes from good restaurants and the sea breeze. My room was clean and comfortable, with AC, an en-suite, fan, fridge, and bottled water. Breakfast was lovely and served in the room. Nothing was too much trouble. I’ll most definitely return to the Bentley.

I booked a double standard room for Christmas two months ahead and paid 5.5K. At check-in, the reception staff said I’d booked for cheap. They said the normal price is 4-5K INR, but because it was Christmas the rooms weren’t available and the price had jumped to 10K. The staff said my booking was too cheap. Complete nonsense. I was also told that a sea-facing room is only included with a deluxe booking, not a double standard room, but that wasn’t mentioned on any website. This is just a third-floor hotel, not like the images, so don’t be fooled.
