Hotel Amber

The food was good, and the hotel’s location is okay. The rooms are average-sized, but there’s no lift. Staff manners were poor, especially the manager, who seemed intent on getting extra money. Although early check-in was available to us at no charge, he asked for 1,500 rupees. After we’d booked, he also pressured us to pay another 500 rupees per day for what seemed like random reasons. Getting water bottles was difficult, and when someone from another room came to ours, the staff kept staring at them. Unless you want to risk being scammed, I’d avoid this place. There are better hotels in the same price range.

The staff were friendly and the location was good, but the room itself was in bad shape. It was on the third floor of a wooden house, and the corridors smelled. Cigarette smoke and dampness lingered in the room. The blanket was dirty and torn, with its filling coming out, and the pillow was moldy. The walls were unevenly painted and dirty, and the toilet smelled of urine the whole time. There was only one towel for two people. At night, someone played music on a speaker in the hall.

Avoid Hotel Amber. The pictures on its website were outdated and didn’t reflect the rundown state of the place. Cleanliness was almost nonexistent, and the bathroom had a dangerous smell. I arrived in the middle of the night, slept for a couple of hours, then woke up feeling sick, which I think was from the sewer air pollution. The place seemed to lack basic health and safety standards: it was extremely dirty and had exposed electrical wires in the shower. Staff were reluctant to unlock doors at night and tried to get extra money from me. I strongly advise against staying here or making additional payments. The pictures really do show how bad it is.

At this price, the rooms are good for the location, and the bathrooms are clean. There’s no lift, since the hotel is on the third floor, but the friendly staff will help carry luggage up from the ground floor. Shops and taxis are easy to reach.
