Hotel Samrat

The place was still under maintenance, and the service was delayed. The rooms were so bad I couldn't stay even half an hour. They seemed to be managing somehow just to serve guests. Never visit.

There was no Wi-Fi in the room, and there weren't any amenities. The water supply was unreliable, and the room I was given on request had a tidy bathroom. They still show availability on Agoda and other apps, even though they don't accept bookings through them. A bad stay.

The food was awesome, and room service matched it. The location of the property is made clear by the signage: it is an OYO property, but the main sign says Unicontinental Hotel, with Hotel Samrat on a smaller sign below. The reception experience was too bad, and the OYO website photos are misleading. You realize that as soon as you enter: the lift is horrible and the lobby has hardly any room to walk, less than in the Gallis of mumbai chawls. :) This is my second bad experience with OYO. The room quality was poor too. Mattresses were stained and dirty, and the bathroom windows wouldn't shut properly. Tariffs are far too high for the facilities and level of cleanliness.

I picked this hotel because I needed a quiet place with reliable internet for proctored exams. I was told before arriving that both would be fine, but loud party music from the nightclubs and restaurants on the busy road went on every night. Khar station is right next door, and construction drilling was loud during the day. I could hardly study or sleep, let alone focus on exams, and the noise really stressed me out. The proctor even said the background sound was too loud and that I might be disqualified, though luckily they let it go. One day my internet was unstable. The staff were attentive and helpful, checked things and moved me to another room. That room was better, but it lost power early in the morning when I had an important virtual meeting overseas. The internet also dropped for a few minutes during the meeting. Luckily the connection held during my exams, or I would have been disqualified. Apart from that, the staff and management were helpful, professional and courteous. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a desk. Habitat restaurant was lovely, with a good selection and a lovely Indian breakfast each morning. The price was very reasonable and good value. The location is convenient, right by the station with lots of shops and restaurants around. Great if you're there to party and have fun, but not ideal for business, studying or exams. Without the noise, which was critical for me, I'd have rated it higher because everything else was great.
