The two young men at reception spoke loudly and treated us so badly that we felt humiliated and had to leave. They didn’t show our family basic courtesy, and their attitude made us feel as though we’d come there to commit adultery. We were travelling as four adults and three children, and it was very difficult to find another room in Munnar. If this is how Malayalis are treated, I wonder how they behave toward other locals. Please don’t book a room here. We had booked two rooms at Hotel O Munnar Bypass, with Cloudy Mist written outside, through Booking.com two days earlier. At check-in, they wanted Aadhaar cards from everyone in both families. Usually the hotel takes the Aadhaar card of the person renting the room, so we offered the cards of the two heads of our families. They refused at first, then agreed after contacting the owner. After that, they said card payment wasn’t possible and sent us to withdraw cash from an ATM two kilometers away. The government talks loudly about Digital India, yet they wouldn’t allow digital payment.
