The whole place felt peaceful and quiet, a lovely spot to slow down and relax. Rooms were large, very clean, and comfortable, and the staff were warm, attentive, and ready to help throughout our stay. When you walk into the hotel, the Davidoff perfume smell is an instant wow. One thing to be aware of: it can be tricky to find, and the slope up to the property is very steep, especially if you're not used to driving in the hills.

The people at Viceroy were genuinely warm and helpful, especially the reception team, and made an effort whenever they could. Thanks to them, our stay was pleasant. Still, the hotel presents itself as 5-star, but doesn't quite meet that standard yet. A few small things fell short of the luxury image and added up to some disappointment. I'd say manage your expectations if you're after a polished 5-star stay. The hotel has room to grow, even though the staff warmth was lovely. The highlight of our time in Munnar was actually a full-day outing with Vijay, a local guide recommended by the Viceroy receptionist. My partner and I rode around in his tuk-tuk and felt like we got to know Munnar's soul in one day. We set off at 5 a.m. for a beautiful sunrise hike up Lakshmi Hills, visited a working tea factory, drove past breathtaking mountain viewpoints, and learned a lot about the region's history and tea culture. We ended at Anakulam, watching wild elephants come down to drink at dusk. Truly magical. Vijay is kind, knowledgeable, funny, speaks excellent English, and made us feel like old friends. We had wonderful conversations all day. If you're at Viceroy, ask for Vijay. You won't regret it. 5/5 stars for him, without hesitation. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The hotel itself gets 3/5.

The property itself was good and our stay comfortable, but a very rigid refund policy spoiled the experience. I had paid in full in advance for three nights, then an unexpected personal emergency meant I had to leave after just one. I explained what happened, but received no refund for the unused nights. I understand policies matter, but I feel basic human consideration and moral grounds should count in genuine emergencies. Losing the full amount for services I didn't use felt unfair and disappointing. With that lack of flexibility, I'd think twice about recommending the resort, especially to families who could face something unexpected.

The view from the property was good, but the stay was terrible. We had to leave early to get somewhere, and I ended up showering in freezing water because the heater wasn't working in the early morning. We told reception, and they said hot water would come in five minutes. We let the shower run for over 45 minutes, but the water was still freezing cold. I called reception many times and no one answered. When we went there, nobody was at the desk to help. The food was average, there were too few staff, and the room hadn't been properly cleaned. We also saw stains in the washroom.

The resort was calm and green, and the views were easily the best part. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the front desk team were polite and helpful. Breakfast tasted fresh, though the choice was thin for the price, especially when it came to fruit. We also could have used more hand and face towels. Getting around is tricky because Viceroy Munnar sits outside town. You need a taxi to go anywhere, and there isn’t really a way to walk out on your own. For older relatives, I’d choose the main building over a cottage. The cottages are downhill, so you have to take a buggy or manage a steep slope. Someone in our group was badly hurt after falling from a buggy as it went uphill. The speed needed for the incline may have contributed, and better precautions for buggy rides are needed. The staff hadn’t told us to sit in front before the fall. They only said that afterward, so the later response claiming guests had been warned beforehand wasn’t accurate. Recording incidents formally would help prevent misunderstandings. The kids, around 10, were looking forward to the cooking class, but it lasted about 15 minutes. A staff member did most of the cooking while they watched and tasted the result, so it felt like a demo rather than a hands-on class. There also weren’t many other activities at the resort. The scenery, peaceful setting, clean rooms and courteous staff were good, but more food choices, safer buggy transport and better activities would improve a stay here.
