Hotel Capri

The staff were polite and helpful, and breakfast was tasty. The location is another plus: Naina Devi Mandir is very close, as is the starting point for boating, so it's handy for tourists. But I stayed with my wife and daughter, and we had booked two rooms. The hygiene was poor, especially around the beds, and the bathroom had a constant bad smell. It made the stay uncomfortable for our family. The other things were fine, but the hotel needs to improve cleanliness and room upkeep before I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a hygienic place.

We only stayed because Nainital was fully booked and we'd prepaid for three nights. Otherwise, we would have left straight away. During 26 years of travel, I've never stayed somewhere this filthy or unsafe. Rooms 105 and 106 were beside the dirty kitchen; smoke from the kitchen filled the common lobby and came into our rooms, making it hard to breathe. Staff shouted food orders from reception to the kitchen early in the morning and ruined our sleep. The bedsheets were dirty, blankets stank, and duvet covers were nearly black with grime. Cockroaches were crawling on the bed. When we complained, staff said one or two were normal and promised to spray, but nothing was done. The bathrooms smelled foul and were clearly unhygienic. There was no privacy or security either. Unknown people and guides could enter freely and knock on guest doors early in the morning to offer sightseeing. One man knocked on ours. When I asked for his hotel ID and took his photo, he turned and left. Staff saw it all and did nothing. It seemed they cared more about guide commissions than guest safety. Booking here was the biggest mistake of my life. The place was dirty, noisy, unsafe, and completely unprofessional. Don't stay here, even if it's free.

I visited Nainital two years ago and had a terrible stay here. The toilet stank and the food was bad, while staff kept knocking on our door for no reason. At night someone tried to force their way into our room and kept pressing the lock. On the second and third nights, we heard footsteps on the roof above our terrace-level room. My mother and I were scared. After we asked the staff, they eventually said it was a cat, but I was afraid they were lying. The hotel felt unsafe, and I wouldn't recommend it. The property photos are fake.

The rooms were nice and clean, and the owner was polite and really nice.
