Kings Cliff - A Heritage Hotel

We stayed in the newly built villas in late December 2025, and they were super comfortable. Kings Cliff Ooty was peaceful and serene, and breakfast was great. There was almost nothing for kids to do, though, so the activities could use some work. The highlight was the early morning nature walk with Sradha, a marine biologist. She knew so much about the ecosystem, plants, and wildlife, and looked after us well. A lovely hidden gem in Ooty. Recommended!

The staff were courteous and the service was top notch. The rooms are big and neat, and the place is well maintained with plenty of parking. Food costs a bit much, and the breakfast spread was just okay. Its location is the main attraction, with temperatures about 3 degrees lower than downtown Ooty.

Ooty town can feel like a zoo at busy tourist times, so this hotel was a quiet, peaceful haven. They run a daily nature walk into the hills above the resort. We saw an eagle owl and got a lovely view of the town and surrounding hills. The staff were accommodating in every way, and service was great. We fit our family of four into a superior room with space for two extra cots. The room was good for a 3-star hotel. The restaurant was pretty good and had all kinds of food. I didn’t try the bar, but it looked very posh.

The food and service were great. We enjoyed everything we ordered, including the famous Apple pie. One of us liked it so much that we packed another one to eat later. We didn’t stay in the rooms, so I can’t comment on them. Earls Secret is a lovely place to spend a few hours over a meal. The front lawns are lovely, and there are two dining areas, plus extra seating inside the impressive adjoining Colonial bungalow, which still has its old charm. The setting would be good for a family outing or a small celebration. The dining area views could have been better, as the hedge is covered by small bushes. We took the back road from the Botanical garden side. It was a bit narrow in places but had much less traffic than the main road, so the drive was easy. We chose the restaurant because of its location and good reviews, and both lived up to expectations.
