The manager’s behavior left us feeling unwelcome when we came to Lymond House for our anniversary dinner. We ordered several dishes and only then learned, without any warning beforehand, that they were out of chicken. That spoiled our plans for the special day. He also demanded ₹2,500 for taking pictures on my own phone. There was no sign or advance notice, and it seemed unreasonable when we were paying customers and weren’t causing any harm. It even made us wonder whether it was his own place and whether we’d somehow trespassed. Lymond House could be peaceful and safe for celebrations, but this management made us feel anything but valued. I hope the owner deals with the issue. I won’t go back unless there’s a serious change.

Magnolia, the cafe at Lymond House, was a highlight, with lovely food made with care. The staff were responsive and always willing to help. We spent four nights there with family in Ooty, and the heritage property has a charming colonial feel, with manicured lawns, plenty of trees, and spacious rooms with wooden floors, large bathrooms, and working fireplaces. I’d happily recommend it to fellow travelers.

The candlelight dinner deserves a mention, and the polite, helpful staff made our stay pleasant. Lymond House is a peaceful place to get away, with convenient parking, a lovely garden for morning tea or coffee, and comfortable rooms. Since the building is over 100 years old, including the washrooms, the interiors could use sturdier infrastructure.

The manager wouldn’t give me a simple tour and told me to rely on the online pictures. That felt like a red flag at the time, and now I understand why. The photos are polished, as other reviews also say, and his odd excuse seemed like an attempt to keep the truth out of sight. Avoid this place.
