The Dew Nest

I came away with only a few hours of sleep and a horrible experience. I was on a road trip and just wanted a hot shower and clean bed, but the stay left me exhausted. I’d booked two nights for a Saturday ride from Bangalore to Mysore and then Mysore to Ooty on Sunday, but checked out the next morning. I reached at 3 PM, soaked from the rain. The two older people looking after the property didn’t know about my booking and told me to call the owner. After the owner contacted them and asked them to show me the room, it took about 15 minutes. The pillows and bedspreads had hair, visible on the white sheets, and there were brown stains on the toilet seat. When I told the caretaker, he and his wife argued that they had just cleaned it and said there would always be one or two hairs and nothing could be done. I didn’t want to fight, so I asked for another room. The downstairs room was neat, but had used soap and shampoo packets in the bathroom. After dinner, I told them I was going to rest and went to sleep. At 10:30 PM, someone rang my doorbell. I ignored it at first, thinking it was a mistake, but they kept ringing and banging. When I opened the door, a new person asked if I wanted anything. I said no and closed it. They then talked loudly and played music. The owner is in Chennai, and it seemed there was nobody to keep these people in check. It was past 11 PM and they were still going, making it feel like I was sleeping in a house where a party was happening. The corridor echoed with their voices. There was also a gap under the door, so smoke and fumes from the kitchen came into the room and made it hard to breathe. I called the owner to complain. The music stopped after 11:30 PM, but the loud talking continued. I ask the owner to take this seriously and address it.
