We spent 3-4 days here with family, and the hotel was clean, tidy, and very well placed beside the French town. The beach, French town, and Bussy street are all within walking distance. Staff were polite and even brought us an immersion heater for bath water at an odd hour. There’s also a kettle in the room, and the first-floor Mumbaiwala serves really tasty Kolhapuri-style food.

I booked Hotel Chaplin hoping for a good trip to Pondicherry, and regretted it. Our room smelled bad, was untidy, had broken windows and poor ventilation, and the AC wasn’t working properly. The floor was extremely slippery, and we had to ask before they provided a heater or geyser. Parking was another problem. Staff called it roadside parking, but the spot was beside a public garbage bin on a busy street. Nobody offered to help with our luggage. I don’t usually review hotels, but I’d urge people considering this overpriced place to stay elsewhere.

The room was in awful shape: filthy and smelly, with broken windows, poor ventilation, an AC that barely worked, and a floor so slippery it felt unsafe. We had to ask before a geyser or heater was provided. For the price, the facilities were a joke, and it didn’t meet basic hotel standards. Parking meant a spot by a public garbage bin on a busy, dirty street, and not one staff member helped us with our luggage or showed basic hospitality. I rarely write reviews, but Hotel Chaplin in Pondicherry deserves the warning. I regret booking it. It was overpriced and mismanaged, and ruined the start of my trip. Avoid staying here.

The stains on the sheets and the awful smell in the room made this a really bad stay. There wasn’t any handwash or soap in the bathroom, and the towel was very dirty. I expected better. Staying here was a terrible decision and ruined my trip.
