The team is hardworking, quick to respond, and helped us check in about 30 minutes early at no extra cost. They can also help arrange a rental bike, and there are two room sizes to choose from. I booked through Booking.Com. VMB Residency is also listed as Starlight Hotel on Booking.com and maybe other platforms, but it’s the same place. I found the women-powered team encouraging. The main issue is upkeep. There was visible wall seepage in our room, either a small patch or a larger one depending on the room, and I think the hotel needs serious maintenance or it could slip into a roadside lodge. We booked for the peak period from 29thDec'25 to 31stDec'25, but basic items weren’t checked before handover, so we had to ask again for towels, soap, and water. I asked for water at least five times and was told each time it would be brought to the room in a jug, but it never arrived. They don’t provide bottled drinking water either. On checkout day, civil maintenance work started early in the morning, I think on the top floor. The wall breaking was relentless and gave me a headache. Customers should be told about heavy civil work in advance, or bookings shouldn’t be accepted on those days. There were also a couple of spoiled mattresses in the corridor in front of our room. I pointed them out and was told they’d be removed, but they weren’t.

For a budget stay, this turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I’d been a little worried after reading the reviews, but the receptionist was polite and quick to respond. The room was clean and simple, with what I needed to rest and get ready. Definitely worth the price.

The central city location was the one real plus, with shops easy to reach. The room wasn’t very clean, the sheets were dirty, and the pillows smelled bad. Water supply wasn’t proper, and they didn’t provide towels or other toiletries.

The reception and entrance were in a terrible state, and the lodge felt poorly maintained and unpleasant inside too. The rooms were filthy and unhygienic. Bathrooms smelled awful, had cockroaches, and didn’t have proper water supply. There were no room fresheners or hygiene measures. I saw blood stains on the mattresses, and the sheets had lots of stains and clearly hadn’t been washed properly. The cleanliness was far below basic expectations. This is no better than a very low-grade OYO hotel, and I’d warn people not to trust the fake reviews online. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it for families. I’d never book here again. If this were the only place to stay in Pondicherry, I’d cancel my trip instead. Avoid it at all costs.

The room was spotless and carefully maintained. A special thanks to VMB Residency Manager (Viji mam) for prompt, attentive service. The team’s professionalism and dedication made our stay memorable.
