Hotel JMD International Purnea

I was deep into books, mock tests, and endless chai as a devoted BPSC aspirant when a question came up: “Which is the most illiterate district in Bihar?” My brain said Purnia, my heart said no way, and curiosity sent me there to investigate. A quick Google search brought up this hotel. I called, discussed the timings and charges, and we agreed on everything. Then, as soon as I arrived, the staff tried to add charges for those same timings. Maybe they thought a couple booking a room for two days had lost the right to move around or negotiate, a belief preserved from the 15th century. So we booked a bus, said goodbye to Purnia, and headed to Siliguri. At least the fieldwork confirmed one thing for me: Purnia really is Bihar’s most illiterate district.

The property is in a great spot, right in front of Purnea Bus-stand, and it has a swimming pool inside. The palace and services are great, and it’s good value for money. The room could use some renovation, but the property is good overall. Highly recommended. Thanks to Mr. Gaurav and his team.

A terrible stay. The room was like a toilet, and this was the worst experience of my life. Don’t believe the fake reviews.

The breakfast was limited, served in the room, and you couldn’t ask for more than one food item. The hotel is near the bus stop, so there was loud noise from the morning, although it’s slightly down a lane off the main road. That lane was covered in a big pool of mud. I booked after seeing the 4.6 Google rating, but the room was awful and looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. Bathroom water and electricity were both erratic, the WC seat cover was broken, and the mattress was smaller than the bed. I don’t know how the rating got so high. This place needs a lot of improvement.
