A good place for friends.

You can spot a monkey or a beautiful bird in the old mango tree from the balcony when the weather’s good. This tucked-away guesthouse has a wonderful rooftop view and only about five rooms on each of its three floors. It’s beautifully decorated, with a more Western look than the usual guesthouses I’ve seen in India. I’ve stayed here three times already. The location gives you a choice: a half-minute walk or two rows of houses separate you from the dust, motorbike horns, and vendor shouts on the main street, and Laxman Jhula is three minutes away. If you don’t like Shanti and silence, stay a few steps closer to the road. All the windows have screens, and there’s a humidifier and fan to help with the heat. Hot water is available 24/7. The bed is very wide, and you can choose how firm it feels. There’s no fancy technology, the hosts kindly put a blanket over the firm base. The managers are always ready to help, like magicians. I feel completely at peace here. The jungle starts right outside the roof, where you can enjoy it during morning meditation and, in the warmer months, are likely to see the sun shining through. I hope you get to soak up the purity and harmony of this natural corner of Rishikesh.
