OYO 88347 Classic Guest House

The staff were nice and good, but the homestay was tiny and very expensive.

My wife and I were visiting Shillong for the first time and had been hosted by locals. We found this guesthouse, liked the location, and thought the price was reasonable, so we booked two nights. But after dinner on our first night, the receptionist wasn't at the desk. We tried waking him, and he was drunk and abusive. He wouldn't open the door and threatened that he'd make sure we couldn't get out of Shillong. He eventually let us in after an argument, still hurling abuse. My wife recorded it, and when we showed the video to another person at reception, he just said the guy must have been drunk. Be aware and don't visit this property.

The main drawback was getting into town. Cheap shared taxis may not come by, and the main road is almost a kilometre from the hotel, so you'll have to walk there. Still, the area is beautiful and peaceful, and the walk wasn't disappointing. We stayed for three nights at the beginning of June 2024, a family of three. Our room was small but big enough, with a queen bed and a single bed, a shared bedside table, a working landline for room service, a small wardrobe with hangers, a dressing table with a tall mirror, and a small bathroom. There was a little window near the bathroom for ventilation. The bathroom was clean, with running water all the time and a geyser for hot water. Room service was good. The menu had plenty of options, and what we ordered was tasty and well prepared, though sometimes it took a while. The youngest person working there was probably the most helpful and always came when we called, but sadly we didn't get his name.

We booked through agoda and got a nice discount. The staff were very good, and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The hotel was awesome, and the location felt safe, though we had to park our car on the road because the parking was full. The only issue was the very poor wifi connection.
