The Hosteller Shimla

The rooms were decent and the washrooms were fine, but getting here was a real hassle. You can only come by certain taxis, and walking back from Mall Road means a steep 20-minute climb. The rooftop cafe has awful views because it's fully covered in mesh, and the cafe serves only vegetarian food. Shalom is much easier to reach, right on the main road, and its views are excellent. The property itself is okay, but I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The rooftop cafe is worth a visit for its tasty food and great views, and the activity coordinator, Mr. Ghanshyam Patil, does a lovely job arranging fun things to do. The shared bunk rooms are small but cozy, and good for meeting other travelers. Mall Road is close enough to walk to, though getting to the hotel is a hike in itself. Try the lift from the Car Parking point. Great views of Mall Road, and a chill place to stay in Shimla.

Even though I arrived a bit late, everyone was relaxed and welcoming. The beds were comfy and the atmosphere was great. Suraj at reception during the day and Sandeep at night were both so warm and helpful. And my bro Ghansyam is friendly, fun, and really dedicated to his work. We spent 8 days here on a workation, and the staff were friendly and always trying to make sure we were comfortable. The cafe upstairs serves really tasty vegetarian food. The rooms were fine, though we had some trouble with the hot water, which wasn't consistent.
