Dak Hermitage

The house is aesthetically pleasing and in a great, accessible location. We didn’t eat a meal there, but in the evening we were offered soulful tea and biscuits. The rooms had plenty of heat from an electric heater, a heated electric bed, and a furnace. Shahid, the caretaker, was so helpful, even coming out at night whenever we needed something. We had a comfortable stay at Dak, and I highly recommend it.

If you’re after a stay that doesn’t feel like a hotel, I highly recommend Dak hermitage. It’s a beautifully decorated traditional kashmiri house in a nice part of Srinagar, away from the touristy area, with places to visit easily accessible. The vibe was comfortable and homely. Shahid, the manager, was polite and helpful, so it was easy to get things done. The rooms and washroom were extremely clean, and all the facilities were there.

The garden and trees make Dak Hermitage feel like a quiet oasis, even though the house sits by a bend in a fairly busy road. The bungalow is a classic Kashmiri style place in a great spot in Raj Bagh, Srinagar, right along the river, which is lovely for a stroll. Cross Zero Bridge to the right for restaurants, or take the pedestrian bridge on the left past a delightful English tea house and into the market area. Danish connected us with Shahid, the caretaker, who helped arrange a great driver, Aarif. They all made us welcome and helped us get to sites around Srinagar. The staff are accommodating, and I recommend Dak Hermitage. There are occasional power outages, and the lighting is dim, especially in the bathrooms. AC and fans are available, along with basic bathroom accessories.

We enjoyed staying in this vintage bungalow, with antiques and books all over the place. It’s in a very central spot on the posh side of town. The large windows open outside, so cold air came into our room. The food was basic, but I wouldn’t crib. Shahid and Momin were always on hand to help.
