Jan and the crew were very hospitable and friendly, and I enjoyed all the interesting conversations with Jan. The property has a heritage feel and sits somewhere peaceful, away from the bustle. My room was meticulously clean, and the food was freshly cooked.

The owner was friendly, down to earth, and a gentleman, helping me with all sorts of things during my stay. The ambience was perfect, and the rooms, clothes, beds, and bathrooms were very clean. I’d choose this homestay without hesitation.

A very bad stay. The rooms are small, and the bathroom had leaky taps or toilet seats. It seemed to me that a government agency had leased the Guest House to a private person, who charged for every facility, including water, tea, room heater, and toiletries. I had to literally beg for things I needed, and he didn’t even provide a GST bill.

Jan Mahal is a clean, comfortable, budget friendly hostel. There are dormitory-style rooms with shared facilities, which work well for solo travelers or groups.

It’s a well-maintained place beside SKUAST, with disciplined staff, in the lush green Shalimar region. I didn’t stay overnight, but it still seemed well worth visiting. I’m planning to come back soon.
