The living and dining areas have beautiful decor, and the host arranged a shikara to pick us up and drop us off across the lake. Staff also made excellent Kashmiri dum aloo when we asked. The houseboat is on Nigeen Lake, but the rooms and facilities are very basic. Heaters didn't work during a power cut that lasted all night, which wasn't anyone's fault. Several vendors arrived as soon as we stepped aboard and kept pushing overpriced goods. More bothered us through the morning while we sat on the front deck hoping for some quiet. Be clear if you don't want to shop, or the experience can be spoiled. Come for the houseboat experience, not hotel amenities or a particular idea of a Kashmiri lifestyle or food. One concern: the houseboats, including this one, have drain lines that empty directly into the lake. Seeing that, I didn't dare touch the water during our shikara rides.

We arrived late after shopping in the market, and later found that many sellers came into the boat lobby to sell their products. Bargaining is a must. It may be easier to relax and shop on the boat itself. The hospitality was good, and we had a nice stay.

The houseboat is beautifully done and sits in peaceful Nigeen Lake. We had a very nice stay, with some of the best service. The owner was kind enough to upgrade our room since we were the only couple there at the time. Contact the owner before arriving, as they can arrange a shikara ride for 50 rupees. Bringing your own shikara ride would cost 200 rupees.

Set in serene Negeen lake, this beautifully carved wooden houseboat was one of the best experiences you could have. The staff were wonderful, especially Adnan bhai. The royal boat really makes you feel royal at heart.
