Matsya Island Retreat

The staff were friendly, helpful, and honest, and the food was good quality and tasty. The pool was well maintained, and our 3.5-year-old enjoyed it a lot. We had a beautiful, memorable stay at Matya Resort. We accidentally left jewellery behind, and the hotel manager went out of his way to get it safely back to us with help from the local police. That kind of honesty and responsibility is rare and meant a lot to us. We’d highly recommend this relaxing, trustworthy resort for families.

We booked five rooms at Matsya Island Retreat, and the place turned out to be even more beautiful than we expected. We were unsure at first because it’s relatively small, but Nafisa gave us a video tour that quickly put us at ease. The website photos are decent, though they don’t capture the charming vintage island feel or how aesthetic the property is. The rooms are beautifully designed and cared for, and there are several cozy spots to hang out, plus board games and a pool area that was a highlight. The staff were welcoming and polite. Sahil looked after us especially well, and the chef made some of the best Jain meals we’ve had, despite Jain food being challenging to find on the island. I’d happily book three straight days here on another trip just to unwind and enjoy the ambience. If you’re visiting Havelock Island, it makes for a memorable stay.

Rakesh runs the property well, and the staff were attentive. We had a lovely stay in the duplex-style room, which gave us the privacy we wanted. Matsya’s restaurant is one of the better places to eat in the area. Breakfast choices are limited, but the food is satisfying and really good. Getting around was easy, and we used a scooty.

A very pleasant stay for a decent price. The rooms were clean and nice, the view was good, and the staff were friendly. It’s well situated in the middle of the island. We didn’t have time to try the spa or make more use of the property, unfortunately.
