Mothimahal

Mothi Mahal, Mangalore's first five-star hotel, is now being demolished. Mr KudpiJagadish Pai built it and later sold it to the AJ Shetty group. The building stands on lease land belonging to milagris church Mangalore trust. When the lease term ended, the church asked the original lessee, Mr Pai, to return the land vacant. Pai said he had sold the lease papers, and A J Shetty is now the owner of the Mothi Mahal five-star hotel building. The church filed a legal case to cancel the lease, saying the lessee had violated its terms by selling the land. After a long legal battle, the church won the land and compensation in 2025. The compensation covered the delay and the resale and purchase of the charity land. Now a building covering lakhs of square feet is being demolished. The process began with a notice from the private demolition contractor asking the public to enquire about buying materials from the old building. An iconic Mangalore place is disappearing, like Ivory Circle, Pereira's Hotel, Red Bilding, Meribai Hotel, and St Aloysius Road. Mangalore is slowly opening up to new names.

The food tasted bad and not fresh, and the juice was so watery it seemed diluted, with hardly any real flavor. The quality was poor and the meal wasn't worth the money. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Our alumni get-together at Mothi Mahal, Thrissur on 30th August 2025 was a wonderful experience. The arrangements were well organized, the ambience was pleasant, and the food was delicious. Staff were courteous and supportive throughout. I'd highly recommend it. Special thanks to owner Mothilal sir and manager Mr Varghese.
