Hotel Kediyoor

Accessibility was the only good thing about this old hotel. We stayed for two days, on 22 and 23 November, and the condition was pathetic. The washroom had no exhaust, so it smelled and stayed wet; the soap dish was broken. The upholstery was filthy and badly needed replacing or at least shampooing. The chairs were the wrong height for the table, so we couldn’t really sit and eat or drink. The kettle didn’t work, and there was only a single tea bag, with no milk or stirrer. They claimed the room had a mini fridge, but there wasn’t one. The place needs a full renovation and wasn’t worth what we paid. MMT promised a check-in two hours early, but the hotel wouldn’t allow it, saying online bookings don’t get early check-in. What’s the point of booking through MMT?

The first day was good, and the Executive Suite made a strong impression: it was spacious and well designed, with a comfortable sofa area and a swing (jhula) that was a nice, unusual touch. For a one-night stay, you’ll likely enjoy it. After that, things went downhill. From day two, the room and toilet weren’t cleaned properly, and housekeeping was inconsistent and below the standard I’d expect for tourists. Sheets and towels weren’t changed unless we were asked whether we wanted them changed. Toiletries, tea and coffee pouches, and even the two complimentary 500ml water bottles also had to be requested each time. It felt like we had to ask for every little thing instead of the hotel following a daily SOP. An extra mattress also costs more, even in an Executive Suite, which seems unreasonable for that room category. I wouldn’t recommend eating at the hotel restaurant; we didn’t enjoy the food. Nearby restaurants are a better option. The hotel has spacious rooms and gives a good first impression, but service consistency, housekeeping, and proactive hospitality need a lot of improvement for stays beyond one night.

The staff were helpful for most of the stay, and parking was convenient. Our room was spacious and generally clean, while both the veg and non-veg restaurants served tasty meals. Some service could be more consistent, and the room furnishings could use updates, but it was a comfortable stay and good value for me. Kediyoor Hotels in Udupi is right near the bus stand, making it easy to get around and visit places such as Krishna Temple.

The stay and location were very good, and I’ll surely stay here whenever I need to. Even with the hotel full because of the ongoing convocations in town, manager Umesh Sir was very accommodating. The whole team deserves thanks, especially Prabhakar Shetty for excellent service. Staff were quick and prompt, and breakfast and dinner were excellent.
