We loved our one-night stop here. The fifth-floor restaurant has an open balcony, serves very good food, and offers a gorgeous view for coffee or tea. The spa was another highlight, reasonably priced and very well done. Our spacious room had all the comforts we needed, with a panoramic window view of the surf, sand, and sun, and a true tropical feel. Service was warm and friendly from check-in through checkout. It's a short rickshaw ride from the Cliff, Varkala's lively heart, though you can walk along the beach if you want. Highly recommend, and we'd love to visit again.

The staff are friendly and cooperative, and the rooms are clean, well kept, and properly equipped. They face the sea, and the view is lovely. You can relax by the disciplined, well-maintained pool or head straight to the beach in front of the resort. Shops are nearby, and the cliff beach is 600 metres away if you walk along the beach line. There's a lift, and it usually isn't busy. The fifth-floor restaurant promises a lovely sea view while dining. I'd love to return to Varkala and stay at the same hotel.

Our group used a room for a few hours to freshen up and change, and also had breakfast here. Ms. Krishna helped us from booking through checkout; she was attentive and courteous, and made our brief visit comfortable. The location is excellent, a short walk from Varkala Beach and the Sree Janardhanaswamy Temple. The breakfast buffet had an impressive range of South Indian, North Indian, and Continental dishes, plus a live counter making fresh dosa varieties. The room was spacious, clean, and well equipped, and both it and the dining area had a great beach view. A few things could be better: parking gets quite limited at peak times, the dining area could be brighter and more inviting, and the bathroom towels seemed worn and due for replacement. The bathroom in the executive room was also relatively small compared with the rest of the space. Still, Hindustan Beach Retreat is a good choice for a short Varkala stay, with a convenient location, friendly service, and great food.

I booked a sea-view room and loved it. The beach view was beautiful, right from the room, and the beach itself is only 100 metres away on foot. The staff were kind and helpful, explaining the timings for all the activities. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of options for both South and North Indian tastes. Much recommended if you're planning a beachside stay in Varkala.

The room is spacious and has a great view, and the location, swimming pool, and service are all good. Breakfast was disappointing, with few items and average taste. The bathroom is just okay, and the overall maintenance could be better.
