Brimslóð Atelier Guesthouse

Our rooms were in the historic house, with a sea view and a nice feel. It looks classic outside but is modern within, and the rooms are bright, spacious and very clean. The free capsule coffee in the room was a treat, and breakfast was amazing. The smoked salmon may be the best I’ve had in Iceland. The owner is really friendly, and I highly recommend the place. I was surprised by the one-star review apparently prompted only by the no-refund policy. If you choose the cheaper nonrefundable option, why expect a refund? An airline going bust isn’t the guesthouse’s fault, and they shouldn’t have to cover it.

Take your shoes off when you come in. Dinner is communal, so you get to meet the other guests. The kitchen is part of the dining room, and the food is made there. There’s one set menu, and it was excellent. I came for the location and got an outstanding welcome too.

The restaurant food deserves a special mention, it was very good, and the stay was fine in some ways. Still, we’ve had much more comfort for less than half the price elsewhere on our Iceland trip. The family room had no way to separate the toilet and bathroom from the rest of the room, so going in the night or early morning woke the kids. For such an impressively high price, even by Iceland standards, there really wasn’t much else to note.

We shared a room with another guest, which we’d never done before, but it was fine and we made close new friends. My wife and I stayed during our annual family reunion and had a great time. The room was fantastic and roomy, the food was great, and all the staff were wonderful. Highly recommend.
