The lamb was a generous serving, two thick pieces cooked medium rare, though mine was a little dry. The pea purée and caramelized onion chutney were excellent, and the brown sauce came on the side. My dining partner had the crispy-skinned salmon, a very large portion served with the same purée, beetroot, and potatoes. Before the meal, we got homemade bread with Icelandic butter, a lovely touch. I also liked the smoked salmon cucumber rolls with cream cheese (ISK 2,200), which were fresh and balanced, with a generous amount of high-quality salmon. The restaurant at Gullfoss Hotel is about a three-minute drive from Gullfoss waterfall, with beautiful valley views. Inside, it’s spacious and has a modern Scandinavian feel, beechwood tables, glass pendant lights, wine displays, and local photography. A divider separates the bar from the dining area. Service was friendly, attentive, and efficient without hovering. It made for a relaxed meal after exploring Iceland’s natural wonders.

The view through the window was lovely, and the dining room felt quiet and peaceful. I started with the cucumber salmon roll and had lamb for my main. It took a little while to arrive, but the flavor was so natural and delicious, and the ingredient quality really came through.

The baked cod was fresh and cooked just right. The crème brûlée was fine, though there wasn't much to call out. The Lamb Fillet is one of the best I've had in Iceland, with crispy skin and green pea purée on the side that balances the richness.

The waiter was really friendly, and I appreciated that they offered us dessert to make up for the meal. The food itself was disappointing for such high prices. The soups were short on flavor, especially the tomato, and the salmon and cod were bland too. The tofu was inedible, far too sweet.

We ended up having dinner here because our car broke down nearby and getting it fixed was going to take a long time. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was delightful. We'd happily recommend the restaurant to others.
