Guesthouse Svartiskógur Egilsstaðir

Breakfast was great, and we had a great stay. We did run out of hot water sooner than expected. The signs made us aware of the limit, but there was barely enough for two people to take five-minute showers.

I stayed one night at the camping ground at the end of September in my van, and didn’t need electricity. It was a quiet night, with just a couple of other vehicles around. The ladies at reception in the main building/hotel were extremely helpful and lovely. A heated little house has separate rooms for the shower and toilet, plus a sink area for washing dishes and a kettle. Clean towels are by the sink, and the shower and towels are free. A nice place to stay for the night.

We booked one of the cabins knowing it would be basic, but it was basic beyond what we expected. Even the bin didn’t have a bag, and most things you’d need to get started weren’t there. Cooking was almost impossible, especially since one of the two cookers didn’t work. We were at least glad nothing caught fire. The shower floods within seconds, leaving the bathroom ruined for everyone after the first person. It’s noisy too, and you can hear everything going on inside. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms were very clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming with excellent service. Dinner at the hotel was delicious, with a variety of dishes that went beyond what we expected.
