Hotel North

The rooms are on the small side, but they were more than fine for our one-night stay. From here, Akureyri is 6 km away, making it a good spot to watch for the Northern Lights on a clear night. From November 1 to April 1, check-in is self-service and breakfast is delivered to your room.

Room 104 had a sewer smell coming from the bathroom as soon as we entered, before we’d used any water. It wasn’t the sulfur smell of the water. We had to leave the window open for the whole stay just to tolerate it. The other couple traveling with us stayed in Room 109, which didn’t smell, so the problem seemed specific to our room. The building also felt unclean, with grime on surfaces and flies on the hallway air freshener. We were disappointed. The hotel sends room assignments two days ahead, so if you’re assigned Room 104, I’d ask to move.

The full kitchen made it easy to cook, and the bed was comfortable. The place felt modern and beautiful, with gorgeous views, our own hot tub, and a smart TV that actually worked, unlike most of the other places we stayed. When we needed help, we called the guy on site and he arrived in under ten minutes. He was friendly and helpful. This was our favorite stop on the Ring road, and I’d definitely recommend these "cabins".

The building looks a bit old, but it’s comfortable and the view across the city is really pretty. There’s a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Breakfast is included, but it’s only served from 8 to 10, which was too late for us, and they didn’t provide a packed lunch.
