I expected more, given the guesthouse’s location on the coast and about 10 kilometers from Selfoss. From my room, I could barely see the ocean: another building blocks the view, and the windows are small. I couldn’t find parking in front, though there may be spaces I missed, so I parked about 30 meters away at the church. My room was cramped and had things in it that seemed more suited to a kitchen. The beds were okay, but cold air came down from the ventilator in the window above one of them. The bathroom smelled of sewage, which I suspect may be due to a drain without a water seal. The toilet was odd, and the cleanliness wasn’t great, so I didn’t use the bathroom. The entrance also looked messy. One other thing: they took my money as soon as I booked, even though the listing said otherwise. Good luck if you need to cancel.

There’s a nice beach right next door for watching the sunrise, and you can spot the aurora just outside the guesthouse. Parking at the property is free. The place was a little hard to find because the sign is small and the entrance is around the side. The room is small, but pretty good for the price and stocked with essentials: a toaster, coffee machine, tea, utensils, plates, bowls, condiments, and a kettle. There’s also a washing machine and dryer you can use for free, with detergent provided, plus shower gel. The sheets were clean, and the room and toilet stayed warm in the cold weather. The bed creaked a little and wasn’t very comfortable, and the pillow was too flat. The owner replied quickly and brought extra pillows right away when I mentioned it. The sink and floor could have been cleaner.

The host was nice, and the place was generally clean and neat. Still, we hadn’t realized when booking that it was a half-basement. The room was small, with a microwave and kettle. As others have mentioned, the bathroom’s hot water had a strong sulfur smell, so we had to keep the door shut the whole time.

There was free parking, and the room was clean and well equipped with tea, coffee, a coffee machine, a kettle, and a fridge. It also had its own bathroom and toilet. The only drawback was a moldy, damp smell, probably because the room was in the basement.
