Hofdatun Guesthouse

We had a wonderful week here in June 2012. The setting is peaceful and stunning, and Thorey and her son were warm, welcoming, and helpful. Their horses were friendly and laid-back too. The house was clean, comfortable, well equipped, and a great price. It’s handy for groceries in the center of Selfoss and makes a convenient base for seeing southern Iceland’s breathtaking sights. We still talk about returning and are sure we will. The landscape’s majesty is matched by the warmth of the people. If you’ve never ridden, I recommend trying an Icelandic horse here at Hofdatun. You’ll be glad you did! For a spring or summer visit, bring an eye-shade for sleeping, since the sun barely sets and you’ll want enough rest for your adventures. We can’t wait to return.

Just okay. We picked this place for its location, but the hot tub and horses on site were what tipped it over other options nearby. The hot tub was out of order, and after a new owner took over since we booked, there weren’t any horses either. The kitchen was well stocked, and there were a few duplos for the kids.

After a day of exploring Iceland, it was lovely to come back to a warm, cozy house and rest. The place is amazing and felt like money well spent. We didn’t see the Aurora, though, since the sky stayed covered all night.

We had everything we needed for cooking and eating, and the place was spacious and comfortable. It’s a great location for sightseeing, then coming back somewhere comfortable at the end of a full day. Well worth the money.
