Aska Hostel

One of the owners drove us up to Stórhöfði so we could enjoy the walk back downhill. On the way, she told us about the island and her own experiences living there. Both owners were friendly and happy to chat about places to visit. The hostel has a cosy feel, and while the bathrooms and showers are shared, the doors lock and offer plenty of privacy. A very positive stay in this cute European-style place, and I’d happily recommend it.

The staff were really friendly, and the shared bathrooms were very clean. We had a decent private room with two beds, plus a small stove that let us cook dinner.

When I booked, I was told my card wouldn’t be charged until I arrived. That mattered because I knew bad weather might affect my November trip, so I chose this hostel. The ferry wasn’t running because of the weather, and I couldn’t reach the island, but when I called to cancel, they said I still had to pay for the room. They were unpleasant on the phone and wouldn’t let me cancel despite the fact that I physically couldn’t get there. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

The ferry was delayed, so we arrived very late, but the staff accommodated our check-in. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean, and the showers hot. The price was very reasonable. I’d stay again.
