Puffin Nest Capsule Hostel

The place was very clean, and the mother and daughter working there were lovely and welcoming, though their English wasn't very good. The location is great, about a two-minute walk from the ferry, with a supermarket around the corner. If you've never stayed in a capsule hostel, it's a really fun experience. Reception is around the back, shared by the capsule hostel and the private-room hotel. The capsule area has only two showers and toilets for everyone, plus a small kitchen. They don't serve breakfast in the off-season, and the shared area can feel a bit small on crowded days.

The capsules have a cool design and give you your own comfortable little space, though they're not soundproof, so you can hear pretty much everything. The staff were very friendly and offered us a single room at no extra cost, but we wanted to try the capsules and turned it down. In the morning, a nice lady even offered us free machine coffee from the guesthouse, though there was regular coffee and tea in the kitchen here too. It was a very cool place, and we were the only guests that night.

It was an interesting experience and worked well for a budget night. The capsules were comfortable, but got very hot, and felt pretty cheap and plasticky. The shower drained really slowly. The amenities were otherwise great.

My capsule was broken and wouldn't close. The lodger gave it a quick try, announced the problem without even the slightest frown, then cheerfully walked away. He was part of the joke, wearing a sheep wool vest while giving off a definite industrial-metal vocalist vibe. The place calls itself a "puffin nest," but the experience felt more like a destroyer spaceship. There wasn't a trace of puffin in the black, white, and neon blue hostel decor. The common room had two chess sets as decoration, one looking like a sci-fi board game from the 90s. I couldn't decide which was more offensive. After I left, the building started buzzing, flashing green-blue lights, and launched into space, followed by a fierce fleet of black square kitchen plates.
