Guesthouse Flúðir - Grund

Breakfast was great, and the guesthouse is well placed for exploring the gold ring and beyond. Staff other than the manager were kind and helpful. The room had plenty of space, but it was clearly in poor shape. We couldn't get the shower to a comfortable temperature, several appliances were broken, and the room stayed at 25°C whatever we did with the thermostat. The sheets didn't seem very clean either. When we mentioned the empty soap dispenser, the manager politely suggested we go buy soap at the supermarket. It felt like the hotel next door gets much more care and attention than the guesthouse.

We had two clean, comfortable rooms and could park close to the door, which made handling our bags easy. Dinner was served late enough for us, and the fish special was delicious. The evening veranda was pleasant, and beer was available if you wanted one. Breakfast had plenty of choices, though it was the usual fare without hot food. I'd like a cooked breakfast option for a fee. The place is well located, and we'd recommend it to friends and bring our family back when we're nearby.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, but I have concerns about the service and administration. We couldn't find the reception when we arrived and only learned from other guests that it was across the road at an affiliated hotel. There was no sign pointing the way. Later, after our trip, we noticed our card had been charged twice. The hotel said there hadn't been a duplicate charge when we contacted them. Our card provider investigated for months before the hotel finally refunded the charges. Check your bill before checkout.

Everything was clean, and the location was handy for lots of places of interest. Breakfast was really good, with hot drinks and local options, and there was free coffee and tea in our building. But the walls seemed to be made of something like wood, so sounds carried easily. We could hear the sinks and footsteps. The parking lot wasn't clearly marked either, and check-in was in the building across the way. Apart from that, it was a nice stay.
