Hotel Skógá by EJ Hotels

The location was great, only a five-minute walk from the waterfall, and there’s parking out front. Breakfast had lots of choices and was delicious, and I really liked having the coffee machine at the hotel. The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and had what we needed, and I loved the shampoos. We could hear noise from the rooms next door, though I’m not sure if our neighbors were just loud. There’s only one nearby restaurant, with limited low-fat and vegetarian choices, so food variety in the area is the main downside.

The location and view were fantastic, and otherwise the place was fine. But there were loads of flies and mosquitoes in the rooms, no matter what we tried. There was an outdoor hot tub, though reception controlled it remotely and it was scorching hot, which wasn’t for me. The toilets smelled moldy and gross.

We spent three nights here in mid October 2025 and were lucky enough to get a room overlooking Skogafoss waterfall. The breakfast and service were great, and it’s an excellent base for day trips to the highlights along the southern coast.

The hotel was clean, the food was fresh, and it’s conveniently close to the waterfall. In the afternoon we reached Rainbow Falls and only caught a small rainbow on the left rock, which was a shame. There aren’t many vegetables or fruits in Iceland, and I imagine most are imported. That night I managed to photograph the Northern Lights there, which made up for some of the disappointment.
