Hotel Drangshlid

The inn sits in a lovely open area that’s great for looking at the stars, though it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. We stayed one night as part of a multi-day tour. The breakfast room has a beautiful view over the hills, and the reception has a cozy sofa to sit on. Rooms are clean, decent, and comfortable, with enough room for two, though they’re small. The shower and toilet are separated only by a curtain.

The location worked well for seeing the South Coast, with easy access to Skógafoss and Drangurinn í Drangshlíð while still being away from the busier tourist spots. Parking is free and convenient, and the staff were generally friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable enough for a short stop, though parts of the property felt dated and there’s not much in the way of extras. There aren’t many places to eat close by, so plan ahead or be prepared to drive. It may help to bring food you can keep in the fridge and heat in the microwave or on the stove. Breakfast may be available but isn’t always included, so check in advance. This is a practical base if you’re out exploring most of the time, but anyone after a more upscale or distinctive stay may find it underwhelming.

The food was great, but I didn’t find the room restful. It felt worn and poorly kept, and the temperature wasn’t consistent. Noise carried straight through the walls, from crying babies and slamming doors to hallway sounds and echoes from other rooms. There was also a steady clicking inside my room that went on for hours and stood out even more once it got quiet at night. Sadly, I can’t recommend staying here.

Way overpriced for a place that feels more like a motel. It was simple and clean, but I barely slept. The heating kept banging loudly all night, and once the first guests left early, the whole place got noisy. There’s very little in the way of facilities, and in such a remote spot it gets pretty boring after dark.
