Hótel Laugarbakki

The manager let us know the northern lights were showing, which was great since that was the only clear night we had in Iceland. We watched them from one of the three huge hot tubs. We also happened to arrive on the evening of a traditional Icelandic Christmas dinner, and it was amazing. The staff were so friendly and absolutely wonderful. We had the best time at this hotel.

Stayed two nights with our three young kids and felt really welcome. The staff were great, the food was amazing, and our room was lovely. Slept comfortably both nights.

We were here for one night with a tour group, and the room was clean and comfortable. The bar had beer, wine, and cocktails, and our group was pleased with dinner. I tried wolf fish for the first time, while my wife had spinach ravioli, and both were excellent. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty to choose from, including breads, fruit, meats, cheese, waffles, and yogurt. There are hot tubs, a basketball court, and swings outside. Just not much else within walking distance.

It’s out in the middle of nowhere, so it’s quiet and you can get a great night’s sleep. The front desk person who welcomed us was the friendliest we met in all of Iceland, and the rest of the staff were friendly too. Our room was clean and warm, and the bed was comfortable. I wasn’t keen on the ravioli, though. The pasta was a bit overcooked and the ricotta and spinach filling didn’t have much taste.
