Skogar Hostel

The location is a big plus, right by Skogafoss and an easy drive toward Diamond Beach. The kitchen is nice and well stocked, and the rooms are spacious and maintained well. But the showers were often freezing. Breakfast costs extra, and at $20 it felt pretty expensive.

I had a job interview nearby and stayed here for one night. It was a nice place, with a free coffee machine and shampoo. There was also a good work area where I could do my interview :)

We stayed two nights. Like another reviewer, we couldn’t find anywhere in Vik in the summer, and this was one of the few options. For a hostel, it was pretty good. The owner and staff were very responsive. We couldn’t figure out the locks, so we called, and the owner drove over to help within a few minutes. The place was pretty clean, with a sink in the room, plenty of parking, towels provided, and a shower with a hair dryer and shampoo. There’s a free coffee machine in the kitchen, plus free Wi-Fi with good speed. I could download and play videos. We had no hot water problems, even at night when the showers were busy. There are three showers and two bathrooms on the floor we were on, with around 10 rooms, so at busy times in the morning and evening you might have to wait. There are two cafes nearby, but they close early, at 4 pm and 6 pm. The room is small, barely enough space to have two suitcases open at once. You can hear everything in the hallway, including the smart locks and doors closing. In our room, the door almost had to be slammed to shut completely, sorry everyone. I wouldn’t recommend it for sensitive sleepers. The room only has USB A and C charging outlets, with regular outlets in the hallway.

The rooms were clean, and there’s a kitchen available. But we took a lot of cold showers because hot water was missing most of the time. The combination locks also make a pretty loud noise when locking or unlocking, which gets annoying when you can hear it from inside your room all night.
