Hótel Berg

We slept badly because the building carries every little sound. I could hear people in the hallway, next door conversations, footsteps, and even someone unplugging something or turning on a light. The furniture looked old and worn, and there was mold in the bathroom. There’s no air conditioning or proper ventilation, just one small window that barely lets air through. That’s a real problem on warm nights. The roller blinds don’t block much light, and without blackout curtains, sleeping during the bright summer months would be difficult. Check-in was quick, the staff were welcoming, parking was free, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The shower pressure was good too. We were there for one night, but the building’s overall quality was disappointing and I’d find it hard to recommend.

Hotel Berg turned out to be far more charming than we expected from a one-night stop. The lobby had a roaring fire, the rooms were clean and comfy, and the bed was terrific. The people were wonderful and helpful, and they made a great cup of coffee. We had a relaxing dinner in the lovely restaurant after a packed day touring Reykjavik. We picked it because it’s only ten minutes from the airport, which made an early start easier. It’s a quick taxi ride there, and they offer a free shuttle back to the airport. The Blue Lagoon is close, and there are harbors nearby worth exploring. Breakfast is free too, unless you’re catching the first plane out. I highly recommend Hotel Berg!

The room was good and some of the staff were really kind. But the food was so bad. For two people we paid 5,800 ISK and got bread with cheese, dried fruit, and old toppings. I’ve never seen a hotel charge for food that’s so dried out and old. Nothing else about the place was wrong, but I wouldn’t buy any food there. When we tried to leave, poor communication among the staff meant they didn’t believe we’d paid, and we had to wait until they trusted us. The workers need to communicate better.

Check-in and checkout were easy, and the location is great, with shops, supermarkets, and bakeries nearby. It’s a lovely, cosy hotel, quiet and stylish. The rooftop pool was a real bonus, super warm and relaxing.
