Kef Guesthouse by Keflavík airport

I stayed here nov12-13 and left my phone in the room by mistake. I only realized at the airport, almost ready to board my next flight. When I called the room, an older man with long hair answered. We asked him to take the phone to the airport lost and found, but he said he didn't trust them and would keep it at the hotel until next tuesday, when we would be back. We couldn't get there on thursday, and the hotel never answered our concerns. I emailed several times without a reply. When I called, they said lost and found matters had to be emailed, but still never responded.

A good spot if you arrive late or have an early flight, since Kef Guesthouse is so close to the airport. We were four in a room with a double bed, a bunk bed, and a sink. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean, so that was fine. We paid extra for a decent buffet breakfast: boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, bread, vegetables, fruit, cream cheese, butter, cake, cereal, peanut and hazelnut spreads, plus coffee and tea. You can take a taxi to the airport, or use the guesthouse shuttle for 3,500 ISK.

We were only there briefly, checking in around 11 pm and taking the airport shuttle at 4:30 am. It cost 3500 ISK per room no matter how many guests, and arrived right on time. We knew the rooms were small and the bathroom shared, which was fine. But the bathroom was filthy and smelled strongly of urine, and my shower was cold. The parking area was shared with an airport car park, which made the location feel uneasy. The guesthouse quality didn't match what we paid.

We booked this for a few hours before an early flight out of KEF, and didn't need much, but the heat made the room miserable. It was blasting when we arrived, around 90 degrees. The ground-floor windows were mostly fixed, and the one that opened only moved 2-3", so it couldn't cool the room. I understand that may be a safety measure at this location, which seemed to be in the middle of a rental car and used car lot with very little security for hostel guests. The manager, or maybe maintenance, came in three times to try turning the heat off and eventually said it must be broken. It was hard to tell who actually worked at the hostel, and there were no other rooms for us. We tried to sleep in the heat, but moving the two twin beds away from the heater wasn't possible since they filled the room. After two weeks asking for any kind of compensation, we were told management didn't think a refund was warranted. With so few decent hotels near the airport, this seemed our best late-booking option, but I can't stress enough that I'd stay somewhere else. I'd rather have slept in my car.
