We used the Cabin as a base for whale watching in Husavik and the hike between Dettifoss and Selfoss. It was a lovely place to come back to with our two kids, ages 8 and 11. The kitchen had what we needed for a simple meal. It’s small, and making up the sofa bed morning and evening meant a bit of family Tetris, but that was part of its charm. One of the most charming places we stayed.

The uncomfortable couch is clearly a compromise so it can turn into another bed, and the cabin’s layout leaves nowhere for luggage. The beds came with one pillow per person plus two decorative cushions, so another pillow each would have helped us sleep better. In midsummer, the lack of blackout blinds left us choosing between cooking in the heat or opening a window for cooler air and dealing with the midnight sun and flies. Nordic Natura could be five-star accommodation, but these compromises let us down.

It’s a bit remote, though there’s a gas station around five minutes away and a town about half an hour away. The host was kind and left a really helpful manual. The modern homes had absolutely everything we needed, and the property itself was beautiful.

So peaceful and quiet, and the host was friendly. The design is beautiful and it’s well built. It felt like an unexpected oasis. I’d love to stay there for a whole week.
