41 - A Townhouse Hotel

The room was nicely decorated and had a small kitchenette for making your own food. Self check-in was simple, and it seems like a good base for exploring central Reykjavik. I took off a star because there wasn't really anywhere to eat except on the bed, at least in my room. Cooking facilities are handy, but that could get tiresome after a couple of nights and takes away some of their usefulness.

There are good rooms in a central location, with plenty of places to eat on the same street. But an unpleasant staff interaction spoiled part of our stay. When we arrived early, our room wasn't ready, which we understood. We left our bags and asked at the front desk to use a restroom. The staff member showed us one downstairs. Several hours later we returned and went to that bathroom again, but another staff member came running down and yelled at us, saying it was for staff only. We explained that we'd been directed there earlier, but that didn't help. It left a bad taste, especially as one of our first interactions in Iceland.

We only had a small studio, but it was nicely fitted out, with a lovely bathroom. The rooms are well furnished, and the friendly staff made the stay brilliant. It's close to all the amenities and highly recommended.

The bed was the most comfortable we had during a week of staying elsewhere, and we couldn't hear our neighbors, which was a real plus. Our room was basically a recently renovated studio apartment, with a full kitchen and modern bathroom. It had no closet, but that worked for our needs. Check-in was super easy, although the request for a $300 deposit caught us off guard. The location is just outside the city center, which could mean too much walking for someone with mobility issues.
