I liked the cozy old house, the kitchen where you can cook, our comfortable bed, and the room itself. The breakfast was small but included cheese, ham, bread, butter, and croissants. With so many guests, though, one carton each of milk and juice wasn't enough. We stayed two nights in a double room. The place felt cluttered, with cleaning supplies left everywhere, including in the kitchen, on open bathroom shelves, and near the rooms. That didn't mean it was clean: the shared bathroom seemed overdue for cleaning, and there was mold. Our window view was disappointing and the lighting was poor, though the room still had a nice feel. The quality doesn't justify the price. It definitely needs renovation.

The owner was very kind and let us leave our luggage in the house all day after checkout. There was a sink in the room, so we didn't need to go to the bathroom to wash our hands or get a drink. Breakfast was pretty good, with bread, ham, cheese, fruit, cookies, and jam, and guests can use the kitchen to cook. There were enough bathrooms, but they were cleaned only in the morning. If someone made a mess later in the day, it stayed dirty until the next morning.

Alfholl Guesthouse was clean and felt homey, with lots of interesting areas and the city center within walking distance. There’s a kitchen area if you want to make food, and I really enjoyed my stay. It books up fast, so book ahead.

The ground-floor room facing the street wasn't a great choice. It was noisy outside, even in the middle of the night. The shared facilities were clean at first, but got quite dirty as the day went on. Guests can use a small kitchen and dining area. The guesthouse is within walking distance of Reykjavik's city center, about 10 to 15 minutes from the shopping district. It seems like a place people pass through at the start or end of a holiday before flying home, and that gave it a somewhat disconnected, uninterested atmosphere.

It's clean and quiet on a calm street, yet downtown is an easy walk away. Friendly and professional, in that hands-off Icelandic guesthouse way. There's a kitchen for cooking and storing food.
