Klettur Hotel

Hotel Klettur was a lovely place to stay in Iceland, and I have no complaints about my visit. The free breakfast had offerings I was very happy with. I thought the location was perfect, in a walkable neighborhood with lots of places to shop and eat, including a grocery store around the corner. The staff were extremely helpful, especially when I got confused about walking directions.

I’m very disappointed. This hotel barely feels like one star to me, let alone three. The location is convenient, not far from the city center, and breakfast was good. On the first day, I tripped in the shower in my room and seriously hurt my foot. I still don’t know exactly what the injury is and will have it checked when I get home. I understand my own carelessness may have contributed, but there were no signs or warnings. Why is there a step inside the shower when the drain is already level with the floor? On the third day, I found a trash bin and dirty towel left on the table in my room. To be fair, that was sorted out quickly. There was black mold in the shower area, and hairs from previous guests on the bed and elsewhere.

The breakfast was as good as it gets, and the staff were excellent. The rooms felt a little cramped for two people with luggage. I know that's common in Europe, and I've noticed the same in Japanese hotels I've stayed at, so it's a general observation rather than a complaint about this hotel.

The shower could have been cleaner, but we had a really good stay. The hotel sits at the edge of downtown, so the surrounding area was quiet, and the rooms kept out almost all noise unless someone was right outside the door. The beds were comfortable and breakfast was decent and included. Booking through the website got us free parking in a connected underground garage. It was a little tricky to maneuver in there.
