Check-in was simple even though there’s no reception. It’s a quiet, cool spot, about a 20-minute drive from downtown and 40 minutes from Thingavellir park. We had a great time, especially enjoying the hot tub while it snowed. The bed and pillow were comfortable for us, though that’s subjective.

We spent ages enjoying the fireplace and hot tub, and the amenities were better than we expected. The setting is hard to beat: you’re almost in the city on one side, yet there’s nobody around on the other.

We were hoping for Northern Lights in Dec 2024, but the cloudy, rainy weather meant we didn’t see any. Our family stayed in the Keilir Dome (King suite), which had a mountain view and was really good, with a bathroom and toilet, aircon/heater, fire stove, kitchen, and hot tub. Wines and soft drinks were complimentary, and we didn’t feel we needed services. The room had a great ambience, though the location felt desolate. There’s a petrol kiosk with an eatery and shops about an 8-minute walk away. Some domes share bathrooms and toilets, so bear that in mind if you pay for one of those. Most of the good and bad reviews seem fair in their own way.

Inside, the king dome was nicely set up, with lovely furniture, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Staying in a dome is an experience, and the place itself was really nice. The landscape didn’t offer much to see, the location wasn’t great, and I thought the price was overrated.

The dome was okay, but I found mold in the bathroom. It also didn’t feel nearly as luxurious or remote as the website suggests.
