The balcony was a great place to watch for the northern lights, and the room turned out to be probably the best value we’ve had. It had a bedroom and lounge area, plenty of storage, a kettle, coffee machine, fridge, and English-language TV. The bathroom was nicely fitted, and the location was convenient while still quiet at night. Getting inside was a little confusing at first. They’re meant to send a code for both the front entrance and the room door. They also gave us a free late checkout on Sunday morning, which was great. I’d definitely recommend it.

There’s a very loud bar downstairs, and even with the earplugs the hotel provides, it was hard to sleep properly. The bed was thin and uncomfortable, with just four small throw pillows, and I woke up with neck pain. The bedding was dirty when we arrived, with what looked like a shoe print on one side. Heating was minimal and there was no proper cooling system, which may not be enough in a harsh winter. No complimentary water was provided in the room or elsewhere in the hotel, so buy some outside. The nearby Bonus supermarket is a good option. There was no staff member on site to help with concerns. The only way to contact anyone was through chat on the booking platform. If you need to store luggage, arrange it ahead of time because access to the luggage room uses a door code and there’s no one readily available to assist.

We picked this hotel because it’s in the city centre, and the location worked well. But during our five-day stay, we asked each day for the room to be cleaned, the bins emptied, and the towels changed. Nobody came. I had also booked a separate room here for my 60-year-old Aunt, who was coming from Italy for a short trip. The day before she arrived, we were emailed that hotel maintenance affecting other rooms meant she’d be moved to another hotel. They placed her at Frost Apartment, a 20-minute walk from Midtown hotel, which was extremely inconvenient for an older lady. We chose this hotel so she could get around the city easily. What we paid for didn’t justify how she was treated, and she didn’t enjoy the trip at all. I called customer service, but the woman I spoke to wasn’t helpful and showed little empathy. I asked whether my Aunt could move back to Midtown hotel the next day if a room became available, so she could enjoy the rest of her time in Iceland. The woman said she’d update me, but nobody called back. My friends and I had booked our room to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and the whole experience was terrible. Tourists save hard-earned money and plan trips hoping to be comfortable and make good memories. Our time in Reykjavik was an awful, unforgettable experience, and we won’t book with any of your hotel chain again.

The room stayed cold, as if it had been aired out for days, and that tiny heater couldn’t warm it up. The bathroom floor was freezing too, with the overall temperature feeling below zero. Several lamp bulbs were burned out. After I took a shower, the bathroom flooded within a minute because the drain wasn’t working. A nice woman called Katerina keeps messaging me, but nothing comes of it. I wouldn’t recommend this place. It’s not worth coming here.

There’s no reception counter, just tablets for self check-in. One tablet had been out of order for over over 4 days, and the other wasn’t great either, though there’s a phone on the desk to call for help. The rooms are decent, and there’s a shared luggage room where you can leave bags before check-in or after check-out.
