The mattresses felt like sleeping right on box springs. I'm not exaggerating, I've slept on better ones in jail, I'd wager. The bathrooms were especially run-down, with grout lines that were really gross, and the whole place needs a thorough cleaning. We stay all over the world and usually include one budget-friendly night on a trip. This was that night, and I wish we'd spent the money elsewhere. We also thought it might be nice to sit in the lobby with friends or family for a snack or lunch. No, food is only allowed if ordered from their restaurant or eaten in your room. No eating in the lobby at all, which seemed weird. The whole experience left a lot to be desired, and I regret booking here.

The hotel's old feel didn't meet the standard I'd expect at this price. More seriously, the way guest privacy was handled affected our comfort and sense of safety during the stay. We raised it with the hotel, but the response wasn't proactive and didn't feel sincere. At this price, privacy protection and customer service should be much better. I can't recommend Fosshotel Stykkisholmur.

We ended up needing an unplanned night here after a vehicle mishap. The staff were great and accommodating, the bar was wonderful, and the location was great.

After being out on the road, it was nice to come back to a cozy room. The staff were all so friendly, and having the restaurant and bar just steps away was great. They had delicious drinks, breakfast, and dinner options.

Say hello to the guard on your way in. It's a white cat. The city center, Bonus supermarket, and restaurants are all within walking distance too. It's a beautifully located hotel with perfect breakfast, as always, and lovely staff. If you're traveling solo, pay attention to the rate: one person's price is higher than the price for two, which seems to happen across the Fosshotel group. You get a standard room when you're on your own.
