Hotel Universal Terme

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the pools were okay, but the shower cabins by them weren't clean. The hotel and its equipment feel very dated. Our room wasn't properly clean either, with dust on the floor and lamps. Breakfast was disappointing: not much to choose from, and the fruit and vegetables had little taste. There was no Wi-Fi.

The pools were a highlight, especially the hydrotherapy one, though you need a swimming cap. If you don't bring one, they charge 8€ for it. The rooms were lovely, and the restaurant was beautiful. Lunch and dinner cost 30€ and were high quality, with attentive waiters. One frustrating detail was settling the bill: it has to be done by 8pm the evening before departure. If you have an early flight and miss that, you have to wait until around 8am, with no other option. Apart from that, it was a beautiful experience.

The pools were mostly fine, though a few relaxation pumps either didn't work or barely did. Breakfast offered a decent range, but the food felt like supermarket quality, and the scrambled eggs were inedible. The hotel seems old and due for renovations, with broken lights in places. Our room was okay, but the terrace faced another building, blocking any view of the pool or garden. Wi-Fi was almost unusable. The cleaning lady also came into the room without knocking.

The restaurant food was good, and so was the staff there. I was especially impressed by the spa employee with glasses who looks after the pool and sauna. He was cheerful, attentive, and always ready to help guests. The hotel itself needs renovation and some improvements. At reception, nobody explained that the room key is used to switch on the lights. The next day I had to ask how to get a bathrobe, and no one had told me about the swimming cap or extra towel, so I ended up going back and forth. That was inconvenient. Staff could use better training, or guests could be given a leaflet explaining the facilities and prices.
